Want to get into bikepacking but you're not sure how to start? Or maybe you've done a trip already but you'd like to see how other folks pack and ride with gear? This weekend trip is for you. Cost includes food, logistics, on-trail guide. Bike and gear can be rented separately.
As a lifelong biker, I was excited to discover bikepacking following my run across the country - as a way to see wild places without some of the impact.
What is bikepacking? Bikepacking is pretty much bike touring but with mountain biking capabilities. Advances in gear have encouraged a lot of growth in the sport as has a general desire to rediscover wild places by different means.
Why is it awesome? Biking is fun! Biking allows for greater range which makes a front-door-departure all the more attainable.
Does it require a lot of gear? Not necessarily. Most mountain bikes can be used for bikepacking. Yes, there is an initial investment in bags (we have all sorts of bike bags to rent for cheap!), but once the bike is capable of carrying gear, most of the gear translates well to fast packing.
Do you have to be an amazing biker? No! At least not for this trip. We'll keep it mellow with dirt roads and mellow single track.
My family and I made Santa Fe, New Mexico our home in 2019. For the past five years, I have been exploring this unique and beautiful landscape - the meeting of mountain and desert. The duality of this environment encouraged me to pursue bikepacking and in this pursuit, I have discovered a form of movement through nature that allows me to access even more beauty from the front door. My goal in offering guided bikepacking trips is to assist in getting one started on this adventure.
Trips will leave from downtown Santa Fe and over two nights, explore the high desert alongside the Rio Grande river as well as the aspen and ponderosa strewn foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.
